One of the best parts of travelling is being able to experience a really great view. It’s not something that can be picked up in a photograph or described in a message on your phone, you just have to be there.
So if you’re planning on taking a coach to Oxford, you’ll be happy to know this amazing slice of English culture features some of the best views in the UK.
Here’s how you can see them all...
Tourists from all over the world have their own copy of this photo and there’s a reason why, looking across the city from around this incredible spire is genuinely breathtaking.
You can carefully walk round the whole tower to get a 360 degree view of all of Oxford, just watch out for others doing the same, it gets a bit narrow up there!
Don’t forget to check out the incredible detail of the tower’s gargoyles before you head back down too, they’re still in fantastic condition and are more than a bit creepy.
This 23m high belltower is another tight squeeze on the way up, but well worth the effort on a clear day. Oxford’s classic architecture and surrounding foliage look fantastic at that height, and with a little more space to meander and enjoy the panoramic views, in some ways it does rival St Mary’s.
Carfax Tower is also a great spot to buy a postcard on the way out too! (People still buy those right?)
Tucked in by the Covered Market lies the Varsity Club, a four-story bar-restaurant that culminates with a cozy rooftop bar area. As with many of our other suggestions, expect relaxing views all around Oxford, but this time with a drink in hand!
Tables are on a first-come-first-serve basis so a little waiting can be expected, especially in the warmer months, but trust us, the vibe is well worth it. Whether you fancy a quick bite to eat in the sun or late-night cocktails under the moonlight, the Varsity Club is a must-visit when it becomes time to rest your legs.
If you’re a little more interested in what Oxford has to offer in the way of shopping, you’ll be happy to know it’s a thriving city full of everything from boutique stores to market stalls.
But if you’re still looking for a great view while you shop, Westgate Oxford is the place to go. You’ll find plenty of high street classics to explore under the glorious glass roof and when it’s time for a rest that’s when you can head up to the top of this amazing shopping complex.
With plenty of bars, restaurants and coffee shops to choose from, this faux-garden area is the perfect spot to recharge your batteries, fuel up on something tasty and take in the scenes of this beautiful city.
