Ice rinks are fun for all the family and during the festive season there are a range of outdoor ice rinks setting up around the country. Here's a selection of some of the best on offer:
London – Tower of London Ice Rink
The spectacular ice rink returns to the iconic Tower of London this Christmas. Located in the moat, the ice rink is set within the fortress battlements. The ice rink opens from 16 November to 5 January (closed on Christmas Day). Beautifully lit up at night time, it makes a great destination where you can skate in one of the most famous settings in London. Beside the ice rink, the Ice Bar & Café provides a welcome place to warm up after your skate, serving a selection of winter drinks and festive snacks. Adults - £13.50, children - £9.50, family ticket - £38.00.
London - Hampton Court Palace Ice Rink
Enjoy an unforgettable experience of outdoor ice skating within the setting of the magnificent Palace that Henry VIII once lived in. The ice rink will be open from 30 November 2013 to 12 January 2014, (closed on Christmas Day). Beautifully illuminated after dark, it makes a stunning night-time destination. Enjoy the fairytale scenery as you glide around the ice under the evening stars! Adults - £13, children - £9.50, family ticket - £38.
Winchester - Cathedral Ice Rink, Hampshire
Experience a skate under the stars this Christmas in Winchester. The Inner Close in Winchester is to be transformed by having a Christmas Market and open-air real ice rink. There are a team of trained ice stewards on hand who ensure that the rink is safe and well maintained. The ice skating sessions last for 1 hour. The ice rink opens 21 November 2013 until 5 January 2014.
Adult - £9.50, children aged 4 to 7 - £5, children aged 8 to 18 - £7.50. Skate hire is included in the ticket price.
Brighton - Royal Pavilion Ice Rink
Brighton’s Royal Pavilion ice rink opens to the public this season on November 9 until January 19. It offers stunning, twinkly, romantic and child-friendly ice skating for the festive season. Adult - £13, children - £8.50.
Bath on Ice
Opening Friday 22 November 2013 until 5 January 2014, residents and visitors to Bath alike will be able to take to the ice once more in the spectacular surroundings of Royal Victoria Park. Adult - £9.50, children - £8.50, family ticket - £32.00.
Eden Project (St Austell, Cornwall)
This winter's ice skating season at the magnificent Eden project begins on Saturday 19 October 2013 and runs through until Sunday 2 March 2014. There are sessions for beginners, ice discos on some Friday evenings and delicious new rink-side food! Adults - £6 (admission to Eden not included).
Staffordshire - Ice Rink at Trentham Estate
Trentham’s real ice rink is back in it’s beautiful lakeside setting from the Christmas Launch on Friday 29 November, to 23 February 2014. Hot and cold drinks and snacks are available at the rink side. Adult - £9.00, children aged 5-15 and concessions - £7.25. Tickets include admission to Trentham Gardens (during open hours).
